Commenting on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K Advani's statement about his party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Former Samajwadi Party leader Shahid Siddiqui on Tuesday said Advani was just trying to compensate for opposing Modi earlier by praising him now.

"It is too soon to say whether Modi's governance would be better than Advani's but it is clear that Advani is now just trying to compensate for his opposition to Modi," said Siddiqui.

"He is just trying to get into Modi's good books and to indirectly say that Modi has his support now, and it means nothing more than that," he said.

Advani on Monday had assured his party workers that Modi-led government would be stronger and better than the previous Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government if he was voted to power.

Advani had earlier opposed the nomination of Modi as the prime ministerial candidate for the BJP and had gained criticism from his own party members for the same.
