BSP to support TRAI Amendment Bill
BSP supremo Mayawati today said her party will not oppose the appointment of Nripendra Mishra as Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister and support the TRAI Amendment Bill in Parliament. Uproar in Rajya Sabha over journalist meeting 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed
Opposition Congress on Monday created uproar in Rajya Sabha over reported meeting of a journalist considered close to yoga guru Ramdev with 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed, leading to two adjournments during Question Hour. Though the government clarified that it had nothing to do with it, Congress members sought a detailed statement on the purpose and motive behind the meeting with India's most wanted terrorist. Congress members said it was a matter of national interest and the journalist should have been arrested. Digvijay Singh from Congress raised the issue when the House met for the day seeking to know from Leader of the House and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley if the meeting had government's sanction. Any reaction on social media? Did he go as an envoy of NDA Govt or as a personal envoy of prime minsiter?" Reacting to Singh's tweet, Vaidk responded, "I have never been a special envoy for any PM, I am my own envoy. If I didn't become an envoy for Indira Gandhi, Narsimha Rao or Atal Behari Vajpayee why would I be an envoy for Narendra Modi? I have been meeting presidents and prime ministers of countries and rebel forces, I wasn't envoy of any PM." He also added, "Salman Khursheed and Mani Shankar Aiyer were also part of delegation. People's Democratic Party protests against attack in Gaza, stages walkout in Lok Sabha
Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party (JKPDP) today voiced grave concern over killing of "innocent" people, including children, in Gaza following attacks by Israel and staged a walkout in Lok Sabha. As soon as the House met for the day, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti wanted to raise the issue saying the House cannot remain silent over the killing of women, children and others in Gaza. "Why are we silent? Whom are we afraid of? India is the only friend of Palestine since 1947. We have to condemn the attack. We have to discuss," she said, supported by party member Tariq Hameed Karra. Read more

Congress leader Rashid Alvi questions Centre over amending law in respect to Nripendra Mishra's appointment
Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Monday questioned the need to change a law in order to give preference to one person in connection with the appointment of Nripendra Mishra as principal secretary to the prime minister. "Prime minister has the right to select his principal secretary. But why is that one person so important? How can law be changed for one person? This creates a suspicion in the minds of the people," Alvi said. Read more
Will BJP have last laugh over TRAI bill?
The ruling BJP is hoping to have the last laugh over the Congress' plans to corner it on the TRAI amendment bill in the Rajya Sabha. After Congress' ally NCP refused to oppose the bill, replacing the ordinance which paved the way for Nripendra Misra's appointment as Prime Minister Narendra Modi's principal secretary, the BJP is counting on Sharad Pawar's stand to sap the opposition's confrontational approach on the issue. "The government is confident of the bill's passage. It's a small lacunae in the Act and we are trying to bring TRAI rules in line with those of other similar authorities," minister of state for parliamentary affairs Prakash Javadekar told dna.
