Counting of votes have started for all the 90 seats in Haryana. Ruling Congress is in some trouble after as it facing anti-incumbency. BJP has emerged as a very strong force in the state after playing a minor role for a very long time. INLD is another crucial party in the fray though the senior leaders are facing serious corruption charges. BJP broke their alliance with HJC shortly before elections and decided to contest alone. Both Amit Shah and Narendra Modi has campaigned extensively in the state.

The state had created history by clocking an all-time high polling of about 76.54 per cent, surpassing maximum of 72.65 per cent in 1967 in the high-stakes battle among top contenders Congress, BJP and INLD in a multi-cornered contest. The fate of 1351 candidates, including 116 women - the highest number since the formation of the state in 1966, was sealed during the single day polling.

The key aspirants whose fate would be decided include top guns like Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Randeep Surjewala (Congress), former Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala's son Abhay, daughter-in-law Naina and grandson Dushyant (INLD), former Union Minister Venod Sharma and his wife Shakti Rani (HJCP-V),former MP Kuldeep Bishnoi, his wife Renuka and elder brother former Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan (HJC-BL).
Congress and BJP contested elections from all 90 Assembly constituencies of the state whereas 88 candidates of INLD, 87 of BSP, 65 of HJC, 17 of CPM, 14 of CPI and 297 of Registered Parties including two candidates of the SAD and 603 Independent Candidates contested.

During the 2009 Assembly elections, Congress had won 40 seats, INLD 31, BJP four, HJC-BL six, SAD and BSP one each and Independents seven.

BJP was today propelled to power in Haryana by a dramatic surge in vote share that saw its tally zooming from 4 to 47 in the 90-member House in the backdrop of a Modi wave. With a 24% rise in its vote share, BJP on its own is all set to form the government for the first time in the state in which it was a fringe player so far. BJP's vote share rocketed to 33.2% from a meagre 9.05% in the last Assembly polls in 2009, bringing a dramatic victory for the saffron party. It had been earlier playing second fiddle to the regional parties in Haryana, including INLD that has now finished second.

The Modi wave crumbled the bastions of Congress, which was in power for the last 10 years with Sonia Gandhi-led party's vote percentage dropping from 35.12% to 20.6% in this election. BJP's tally of seats rose sharply from just 4 in 2009 to 47 in 2014 due to the increase of almost 24% vote share as more than 41 lakh of the electorate voted for it. The outcome was virtually a mirror image of the Lok Sabha elections held in April-May which had seen BJP capturing seven of the 10 parliamentary seats in the state, leaving two for INLD and one to Congress.
