A day after his address in Rajya Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday urged Lok Sabha to forgive Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti for her controversial remarks.

Addressing Lok Sabha Narendra Modi said, "Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti has apologised. She is a first time member and comes from a rural background. I had expressed annoyance over her remarks even before the issue was raised in Parliament."

He further added, "I am Grateful to leaders in Lok Sabha for allowing House to function amid the controversy. The House should allow the matter to rest now."

Narendra Modi on Thursday had broke his silence over the row surrounding Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, saying he "strongly disapproved" of the comments of the "new Minister" who has apologised and the matter should end but the opposition remained adamant on her sacking.

Earlier in the day, wearing black masks, Congress MPs led by Rahul Gandhi protested outside Parliament House over controversial comments made by Niranjan Jyoti.
