Marking the first standalone bilateral visit in 42 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Canada where the focus will be on setting a "trajectory" in ties through cooperation in energy, including civil nuclear, and attracting trade and technology for India's development.
The Prime Minister flew into here from Germany where he laid emphasis on attracting technology and investments for 'Make-in-India' programme. With his focus on the programme, Modi is expected to invite Canada to partner in this endeavour by sharing technology and pumping in investments.
The Prime Minister will also be meeting officials of the Pension Fund of Canada which has the corpus of 200 million dollars and discuss how to ease the investment opportunities for it.
He will also address the Indian community in Toronto, which is billed to be on the lines of the famous Madison Square address in New York last year.

Modi calls for UN resolution to unitedly fight terrorism
Amid growing threat of terrorism worldwide, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called for a UN resolution to unitedly fight against the menace and its support base as he condemned the terror attack on Canada's Parliament Hill last year.
"All those who believe in humanism should unite to fight against terrorism. There is a need for a UN resolution to fight terrorism," Modi said at a joint press conference with his Canadian counterpart Stephen Harper here.
He said the threat of terrorism is growing; its shadow extends over cities and lives across the world. "Terrorism has transcended borders. We have to unite to fight terrorism. Terrorism has no race or colour. If we have to fight terrorism then the world should be given a message under the umbrella of UN," said Modi.

India, Canada to resume cooperation in nuclear sector: PM Modi
India and Canada will resume commercial cooperation in the civil nuclear energy sector after decades, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday while hoping his visit would act as a "springboard" for taking the bilateral relationship to a new level.
"During this visit, our two countries will resume commercial cooperation in civil nuclear energy after decades. This will be a defining symbol of our mutual trust and understanding, and of our willingness to look beyond the boundaries of the past to the opportunities of the future," Modi wrote in an opinion piece in the Canadian paper The Globe and Mail.

Grand nephew of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on Monday night met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After meeting, nephew Surya Bose said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured him to look into the surveillance issue and the declassification of files.
“It was a very cordial conversation and we talked about quite a few topics. We talked about the surveillance issue and the declassification of files,” Bose said in an exclusive interview to Smita Prakash, Editor, News, ANI.
“He said he will look into it seriously and then make a decision. He said he will try his best to open them up because he himself hasn’t yet seen any of those files. So, he cannot judge what the contents are like, what they could be. So, it was a very honest answer I must say,” he added.
Bose further said Prime Minister Modi has promised to look into the matter and added that he was very hopeful in this regard.
“He promised to look into it and try his best to do something about it. I am hopeful,” he said.
Bose also stressed that the files may not contain much of substance, but it might be possible that something much worse than the surveillance might come out of it.
“That is a difficult thing to guess because you don’t know what’s in those files. There may be nothing much of substance in there, but again something much worse than the surveillance might come out of it. On the other hand, there may be some disappointing news about our great leader. So, you don’t know. It’s a guess work we can do,” Bose said.
“We have to wait till these files are declassified and I requested him that he should declassify all the files and he at least said he will do his best,” he added.
‘Crucial for India to become a manufacturing hub, can’t let this opportunity go’: PM Modi

Promising a stable business environment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday wooed German investors saying opportunities in India are "seamless" and huge for a vibrant economic partnership.
Inaugurating he Hannover Messe, a business fair, with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Prime Minister said India is working on a "predictable and transparent" environment to open up investments.
"We are creating an environment that is stable, where rules will not be changed frequently and there will be no surprise elements," he said.
Strongly pitching for his 'Make in India' campaign, he said it was not a "slogan or a brand, but a new national movement."
Modi woos investors; promises predictable tax regime in India
Wooing investors from Germany and the rest of the world, Modi promised a welcoming business environment in India with a "predictable, stable and competitive" tax regime and asserted that the "remaining uncertainties" will be addressed.
He said the task of turning around the systems in India is "huge" and will not be completed overnight but stressed that the government is firmly moving in that direction and it will be done.
Inaugurating, along with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Hannover Fair in which India is a partner country, Modi said his government is "removing unnecessary regulations and simplifying our procedures" to make it easy for doing business in the country and enable foreign companies to participate in the 'Make in India' programme.
"Today, I come to seek German partnership in my own mission to open up India's seamless economic potential. To the industry of the world that has assembled here today, I say that we have no special bias for our host today! India is open and ready to embrace the world," he said addressing the gathering of top business leaders from Germany and other parts of the world.
