Dr Subhash Chandra, chairman of Essel group, addresses the issue of fear amongst the youth through his experience as a leading business tycoon. Through the Dr Subhash Chandra Show that airs on Zee News, he provides a larger platform for the next generation to vanquish their fears.

'Fear' was discussed in his latest episode, as Dr Chandra believes it is the foundation of all our problems. He said, “It is something that haunts all of us, and overshadows our goals and success”. Using a combination of everyday examples and stories of his experience in today's competitive age, he answered common anxieties that the idea of fear creates.

He outlined the basic fears faced by the common man by relating it to the scriptures. According to them, there are four things that are the key to happiness, and we have fears associated with them. They are: health, wealth, a good life partner and an obedient son/daughter.

Dr Chandra explains the last fear through his own example. His colleagues often fear the fate of his company, as he is always juggling several things simultaneously. But he answers their fears by highlighting his faith in himself and his belief that if the next generation who will handle the company is capable and successful, then the company will always succeed.

He welcomed a host of questions by the youth in the audience to give a more holistic approach to the issue.

When you take advice from people, they give multiple and diverse suggestions. Which one do you follow then?
Everyone gives advice through their own perception towards something. Their brain filters their opinion through their respective decisions. Thus, the diverse opinions may be right in their own way. The answer lies in your gut, Dr Chandra says. Quoting his grandfather, he says, “Listen to everyone, but do what you think is right.”

The confidence that you carry, it seems like you can handle any problem. How does someone generate this confidence within themselves?
Stay aligned with the truth and move forward, the confidence will come by itself, advises Dr Chandra. A spring is held down by the external force you put on it; the moment you release it, it springs back up. Similarly, just find your inner talent, channel it in the right manner, then you can become confident.

We always fear that we will make mistakes. But we are human, so we are bound to make mistakes. Then is the fear pointless?
"I do not agree with the statement that humans make mistakes; we have been brainwashed with this phrase," says Dr Chandra. We are humans and have the capability to distinguish right from wrong. It is just that the idea of what is right and wrong differs depending upon the kind of person you are, and culture and country that you belong to.

I believe that I have the solution to a problem, but I can't decide whether to listen to my mind or heart. How do you know which approach is right?
Move out of your comfort zone, and face your fears, is Dr Chandra's advice. You have to have the desire, and your strength has to match it, only then can you move forward.

How can we live in the present, when we are constantly worried about our future?
We cannot predict our future, we have to learn to accept that the outcome is not in our hands. We love the idea of fame and success, but do not realise that we have to work hard in order to achieve it. The present is important; living in the present makes you focus on your work and thus strive towards your goals. If you concentrate without being distracted by the past or present, then the impact will be much greater.

Dr Subhash Chandra concluded the enlightening show with promising words of wisdom. He once again emphasised, “Move out of your comfort zone and face your fears.” He added, “It is important to understand your conscience.”
