Two live bombs that were recovered by officials of Itahar Police Station in North Dinajpur district of West Bengal went off inside the police station on Sunday, injuring three policemen.
The crude bombs that went off were recovered from several places across the district last week. They were kept inside the police station, however, sources say that they were not diffused and went off around 11.30 am inside the police station.
A sub-inspector, an assistant sub-inspector and a civic volunteer were injured in the incident. They were rushed to the North Dinajpur local hospital.
After their condition started deteriorating, they were shifted to Raiganj Hospital and are currently undergoing treatment there.
Meanwhile, the police have begun an investigation as to why the recovered live bombs were not diffused.
