The stage is set for the elevation of Rahul Gandhi as the Congress President. The process began today with the filing of the nomination papers by Rahul Gandhi. The elections for the top post in the Congress party comes amid the claims of party rebel Shehzad Poonawalla, who said that "Rahul Gandhi's election is merely a formality as party president elections are fixed, its rigged".

Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar has claimed that terming the election process as "Aurangzeb Raj" is incorrect. "Anyone is free to contest against Rahul Gandhi, its a totally democratic process", ANI quoted Mani Shankar Aiyar as saying.
