The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which is a little short of majority in Delhi assembly election may try all tricks in the book to prove majority on the floor of House. However, a section within the party feels that accepting the verdict, the party should not stake claim for formation of government, which would ensure president rule’s and re-election. Thus, the party can cash in on the ongoing Narender Modi factor when they are held next year.

Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel said the BJP will seek support from independent candidates and other like-minded people to form the government. “I am confident of formation of the government under the leadership of Harshvardhan. Our government will prove majority on the floor of the House. We are contacting independent and others and sure to win their support,” Goel added.

The BJP may also try to convince elected members of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to resign so that the halfway mark comes down. According to the Delhi BJP sources, a section in the party is of the view that they will try to convince a few individuals to resign to manage the numbers in the House.

“A few leaders are in touch with some AAP candidates to ask them to resign to ensure BJP’s majority. Nothing has been finalised but talks are on with a few AAP’ MLAs,” he added.

Another section is also trying to convince newly elected MLAs to remain absent during the confidence motion in the assembly. “Party may get tactical alliance with some individuals to remain absent whenever BJP has to prove majority or get the important bills including budget passed,” said a Delhi BJP leader.

Meanwhile, one section led by youth brigade of the party suggested that, BJP should sit in Opposition and let AAP and others form the government. “If BJP failed to get the majority and its a hung assembly, party must seek re-election which may be held along with general elections next year. And at time, BJP may be benefitted more by the Modi wave,” sources said.
