Light, moderate rains in UP; heavy showers expected

Light to moderate rains and thundershowers occurred at a few places across the state with heavy rains at isolated places in the western region.

According to the MeT office, chief amount of rainfall recorded in cms was -- Bijnore- 10, Hasanpur and Dhampur-7 each, Thakurdwara, Baghpat, Nagina -6 each, Moradabad, Lucknow, Bisalpur-4 each, Fursatganj, Faizabad, Mowana-3 each.

The forecast says that heavy rains and thundershowers are likely to occur at many places in the state.

Meanwhile, Central Water Commission said that river Sharda continued to flow above the red mark at Palia Kalan in Kheri and was also rising while flowing very near to the danger mark at Shardanagar.

River Ghaghra was also flowing near the danger mark at Elgin Bridge in Barabanki, Ayodhya and Turtipar in Ballia, the report added.
