Authorities at the Bannerghatta National Park are yet to locate the leopard that escaped from a cage in the zoo in the wee hours of Monday. It may be recalled that the leopard sneaked into Vibgyor High premises on February 8 and mauled three people. The forest officials had succeeded in tranquillising the leopard after 10 hours.

The leopard was shifted to the Bannerghatta National Park in a cage and was kept under observation.

Speaking to iamin, Dr Manjunath, in-charge, veterinary services, Bannerghatta National Park, said that the leopard had escaped from the cage in the wee hours of Monday. “The leopard was under treatment. Its cage door was not locked. The leopard might have escaped by lifting the cage door,’’ Dr Manjunath said.

According to reliable sources, the Bannerghatta National Park authorities have formed eight teams with 52 forest officials to search for the missing leopard. “We have been searching for it since morning. So far we have no clue about the leopard,’’ said Dr Manjunath.

Meanwhile, Santosh Kumar, director of the Bannerghatta National Park was not available for comment since he was busy with the search operations in and around Bannerghatta National Park.
