State BJP leaders are constantly raising their voice within the party alleging that the party was distancing itself from leaders every time they were implicated in false cases resulting in lowering the morale of party workers and loss in confidence in their leadership.

A senior state BJP leader said that recently, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Roopa Ganguly had in the party Whatsapp group said that while thousands of BJP workers were being implicated every day in false cases by the present dispensation, those who faced allegations were being disowned by the party?  ‘… amra case kagoje berolei take ochhyut kore phelle tahole r amra ek poribar ki kore holam.. sobai eka ekai judhyo kore jabo..? Keu karo pashe darabo na.? E kemon poribar.?’ (as soon as a case is out in the media if we ostracise the accused then how do we become one a family? Do we all have to fight our own battle and no one will stand by us? What kind of family is this?) her post read.

Talking to DNA, Ganguly said that it was only a part of the conversation which ‘party renegades’ had leaked and was not entirely true. “There will be differences in opinion in members of a family but at the end of the day we must not forget that it is a family,” she said.

Roopa, charged with molestation of a woman in a case that happened on May 22, 2016 at Kakdwip in South 24 Parganas had managed to get an anticipatory bail at Calcutta High Court.

BJP state vice president and party spokesperson Jay Prakash Majumder had been arrested by Bidhannagar Police on January 14 under sections 420, 406 and 506 of the IPC, being accused of siphoning of Rs 7.2 lakh from aspirants who wanted to become primary teachers and managed to get bail on February 3.

In both Majumder’s and Ganguly’s cases it was found out that they had hired counsels on their own (incidentally the same set of three lawyers were involved) and the party’s legal cell was not involved in the cases. While Majumder deflected the question saying that the party had cooperated with their moral support, Ganguly said that one of the party workers, ‘Kalibabu’ who is also a lawyer had earlier helped her in the case.

Sources within the party said that there was an upcoming case of defamation against party national general secretary and Bengal observer Kailash Vijayvargiya who had accused Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar of destroying evidences in the multi-crore Saradha ponzi firm scam. “Vijayvargiya too was using his own lawyers. It shows the political immaturity of the state BJP president Dilip Ghosh,” a senior state leader said.

In the recent case of child trafficking where Juhi Chowdhury, Jalpaiguri Women’s Wing chief of BJP is allegedly involved, Ghosh said that if found guilty there will be no place of such person in the party. Reacting to the talks within the party, Ghosh talked to DNA saying, “People are free to discuss and say anything in social media. We had always been there with party workers and would continue to do so. People who have little knowledge about politics were spreading these rumours.”
