Lawyer Janhavi Gadkar may have knocked down BARC guards last week

Corporate lawyer Janhavi Gadkar who has been arrested on charges of drunk driving on Tuesday had only days ago knocked down two BARC security guards riding a motorbike in Govandi.

Gadkar and the guards were injured and ended up in the nearby Shatabdi hospital, reported an English Daily.

On Tuesday, the police took the lawyer at the same hospital and the doctor there recognised the lawyer as the same 'petite' woman who had come in for treatment on Saturday.

The 35 year-old lawyer was brought to Kurla court where the magistrate extended her police custody saying, "to verify where and whether she purchased more liquor before the crash". The RCF police are waiting for the Forensic Science Laboratory report on the alcohol content in Gadkar's blood. The police has an important evidence. They have got a Hotel Marine Plaza bill (receipt) of Rs 4,500 for six pegs of whisky. It also has the CCTV footage of Gadkar and two of her colleagues having dinner at the hotel.

On Tuesday, in the early hours, a luxury car driven by Gadkar had rammed into a taxi, killing two people including its driver on the Eastern Freeway here, after which she was arrested. The deceased were identified as Mohammad Abdul Sayyad, (55), the driver, and Mohammad Salim Sabuwala (50).
