A woman lawyer from Chhatisgarh, claiming to be a rape victim, on Monday expressed her protest before the court, against the police for not arresting the accused.

Justice Lodha's bench was about to rise after the day's proceedings when the victim lawyer got up and alleged that she has been gang-raped in November, last year, by her in-laws.

Since the lady was inaudible, the bench, also comprising Justices Kurian Joseph and R F Nariman, sought the assistance of another woman lawyer who, after speaking to her, said she has consumed naphthalene balls.

Lawyer said except for registering a FIR, police has not arrested the accused persons and she was harassed by the police.

Taking a suo motu action, Justice Lodha directed the lawyer to be taken to a hospital. She was first taken to the Supreme Court dispensary and then rushed to RML hospital and is listed the matter for hearing on Tuesday.

The bench also appointed Vandana Sehgal as amicus curiae to appear for her in the case.
