Latest weaponry to be used in war games in Arunachal Pradesh

The war games will be carried out jointly by the 17 Mountain Strike Corps; Tezpur based 4 Corps and the Indian Air Force.

Sending a firm signal of its sovereign rights extending till the far end of the northeast, Indian Armed Forces will carry out massive war games in Arunachal Pradesh in October almost coinciding with Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit this year. To make the message seemingly tougher, the Armed Forces are planning to deploy their latest acquired US weapons systems including M-777 ultra-light howitzers and Chinook heavy-lift helicopters in the war games.

The war games will be carried out jointly by the 17 Mountain Strike Corps; Tezpur based 4 Corps and the Indian Air Force.

Sources inform that the war games code named HimVijay will be carried out mainly to better the war fighting abilities of the newly-raised 17 Mountain Strike Corps in Arunachal Pradesh. The Corps was raised specifically looking at the possible Chinese threat in the northeast region and Ladakh region.

The 17 Mountain Strike Corps will also be testing their ability to move swiftly along with the M777 Ultra Light Howitzers as that is going to be their mainstay weapon during an attack mode at higher altitude terrain.

During the games like the in the real situation, the troops will be airlifted from far off locations and dropped and deployed close to a zone where they would simulate a major war with the eastern adversary China.

 Movement of troops have already started as more than 5,000 highly specialised troops in mountain warfare are expected to take part in the war games along with over 50 transport aircrafts and helicopters
