Lashkar-e-Taiba behind Amarnath terror attack, confirms J&K police; three arrested

Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday confirmed the involvement of Lashkar-e-Taiba in attack on an Amarnath yatri bus in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir last month.

Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday confirmed the involvement of Lashkar-e-Taiba in attack on an Amarnath yatri bus in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir last month.

Seven Amarnath pilgrims, including six women, were killed and 19 injured when the bus came under terrorists' gunfire.

Addressing to media, Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Range) Munir Khan said, "Happy to tell you that three accused persons have been arrested and they have revealed everything.  Lashkar-e-Taiba was involved, and accused were identified."

Khan also said that the attack was initially planned for July 9, 2017, but that day there was no movement of CRPF or yatri vehicle in isolation.

"Ismail, a Pakistani militant of Lashkar alongwith two other Pakistan militants and a local Kashmiri Lashkar militant carried out attack," Khan said.

"Accused people who provided them logistics to carry out their plans in the state and work as their guides have been identified," Khan said.

Khan also said that the terrorists had code word 'Shaukat' for yatri vehicle, and 'Bilal' for CRPF vehicle. "It was purely a terrorist act," he said.

The attack was initially planned for July 9th,but that day there was no movement of CRPF or yatri vehicle in isolation.

The top officer also said that two Lashkar militants were eliminated few days ago and their involvement in this particular case, is still being investigated.
