The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday said that the Land Acquisition Bill would be passed only after taking the opinion of all stakeholders, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre would move for the betterment of the entire nation, including its farmers.

"Congress president Sonia Gandhi has written a letter to Nitin Gadkari over the Land Bill. I would like to respond to her letter by quoting a poem by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who will be conferred with the Bharat Ratna today," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said..

Sambit Patra summarised the Hindi poem thus:"No matter how many difficulties come in the way, we will move forward for the betterment of the country and the country's farmers.", and added :" We will listen to the opinions of every stakeholder and only then will it be passed"

Earlier in the day, the Congress president accused the BJP-led NDA Government of being blatantly anti-farmer and anti-poor while urging them to rise above the realm of narrow partisan politics on the contentious Land Acquisition Bill.

She also vowed to never endorse any law that will break the backbone of the nation. The Congress president had earlier on March 17 led a march of the opposition parties from the Parliament to the President's House to protest against the Land Acquisition Bill. She has also appealed to President Pranab Mukherjee to intervene in the matter to protect the interest of farmers.

Earlier this month, the Lok Sabha passed The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) Bill, 2015, amid a walkout by opposition parties even as the government moved nine amendments to address the concerns raised by farmers.
