Rashtriya Janata Dal president Lalu Yadav blamed the Nitish Kumar-led state government for the for the mishap claiming more than 14 lives in Patna During 'Chhath Puja' on Monday

Talking to reporters at his official residence in New Delhi Lalu Yadav condoled to the deceased people and said that it is a very sad and unfortunate incident.

"Our women and children died when the makeshift bridge made by the administration broke down. There are reports coming that there were no facilities at the venue," said Yadav.

"Nitish was in Pakistan, the administration must have eaten up all the money. Tomorrow I am going to Patna after the puja to meet the victims," he added.

RJD leader Ram Kripal Yadav visited the hospital to see the people injured during the stampede and said: "More than 20 people have been died, it is the huge failure of the government and it should be ashamed."

"The government must hold responsibility of this shameful and unfortunate incident," said Yadav

At least 14 people have been died in stampede near banks of river Ganga during 'Chhat Puja' celebrations earlier this evening.

Most of the dead and injured are women and children. The death toll is likely to rise.
