Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad on Sunday called for unity among all "secular parties" if the communal forces were to stopped in the 2019 general election.

"If Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati come together in Uttar Pradesh and we (RJD and Nitish Kumar's JD-U) are together in Bihar, there will be no chance for the BJP," Prasad said and urged other "secular" parties to join the force.

The RJD boss also targeted UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath saying, "Yogi has done 'shuddhikaran' of CM's residence because his predecessors, who occupied the house, belonged to Dalit and backward communities." It may be recalled that several priests had performed "pujas" at the UP CM's official residence before Yogi Adityanath's arrival.

At a meeting of RJD leaders and workers in Patna on Sunday, Prasad also urged his partymen to refrain from making unwarranted comments against mahagathbandhan partners in Bihar. "There are no differences within the grand alliance and it is not going to break. However, party workers should not indulge in making loose statement which may harm the image of the alliance," an RJD leader, who attended the meet, quoted Lalu.

The party will also hold a national camp on May 2, 3 and 4 in Bodh Gaya to prepare for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, sources said.

Prasad's younger son and deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who was also in attendance at the party meeting, said the BJP was trying to divide them but they had to stay united. "The 2019 polls will be an important election for the party. We should realise our potential and work hard to prepare for it," he told party workers.

Earlier in the day, two groups of youth RJD workers had clashed in Patna while they were waiting to welcome Prasad's elder son and Bihar health minister Tej Pratap Yadav. The party leaders, thus, gave a call to the workers to remain united and focus on their work.
