Lalit Modi has said that he possesses RTI documents that can prove that the government has suppressed and manipulated information about him.

In a detailed statement, with about 34 email links and attachments, the former czar of the IPL has said his absence from India is due to genuine security reasons and that the Enforcement Directorate and the Indian passport office have under-estimated the level of the security threat he faces.

One particular attachment, sent by a certain Ashpak Shaik, says he will be “assassinated” in 2010-’11 for his proximity with Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan and the BJP. Modi had forwarded that mail to Deven Bharti, then additional commissioner of the citypolice, who has acknowledged the receipt of the mail. According to him, Bharti told Modi that professional hitmen were watching his house.

He said that on February 23, 2010, Rakesh Maria, then joint commissioner, informed him of an intercepted communique indicating a fresh plan to assassinate him.

He said that after he was suspended by the BCCI, there was a sudden reduction in the level of protection for him. Modi claimed the his passport was revoked on ED complaint without him being showcaused.
