Lady tehsildar allegedly assaulted; Andhra Pradesh govt seeks report

Stating that police investigation was underway on the tehsildar's complaint, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K E Krishna Murthy said the government would ensure the safety and security of officials.

The tehsildars from Krishna district and members of revenue officers association on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the Krishna district collector, demanding action against TDP MLA Ch Prabhakara Rao whose followers allegedly attacked a woman tehsildar.

D Vanajakshi, tehsildar of Musunuru, had visited a site of sand mining in the district on Wednesday and ordered that commercial sand mining there be stopped. Prabhakara Rao reached the spot and objected to her action. Some women present there allegedly dragged the tehsildar away from the spot, in the presence of Rao, revenue officials and police.

Meanwhile, condemning the alleged assault, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K E Krishna Murthy on Thursday sought a report from the district collector.

Action would be taken against those responsible for the attack, Murthy said in a release here.

Stating that police investigation was underway on the tehsildar's complaint, he said the government would ensure the safety and security of officials.

The government takes the illegal sand mining seriously, he added.
