The Lieutenant Governor has to take a call on the issue of government formation in Delhi and the Home Ministry has nothing to do with it, Union Minister Rajnath Singh said today.

"The LG will decide. The Home Ministry has nothing to do with it," he said at a press conference here.

Asked what were the suggestions given to the LG by the Home Ministry, Singh said no suggestion has been given by him or his Ministry.

"Contrary to media reports, no suggestion has been sought. So, we have not given any suggestion. I am telling you the truth. It is purely the discretion of the LG whom to invite (to form the government)," he said.

Hectic political activities were witnessed last week after LG Najeeb Jung sent a letter to the President seeking permission to explore the possibilities of formation of a new government in Delhi.

The Home Minister himself had said earlier that the BJP will take a call once a formal proposal is received from the LG but ruled out his party indulging in any horse trading.

The Supreme Court on September 9 asked the Centre to apprise it on October 10 the outcome of the process undertaken by LG on government formation in Delhi, saying "alleged horse-trading" will continue if a decision is not taken.

BJP had won 31 seats in the 70-member Assembly but the number of BJP MLAs came down to 28 as three party legislators Harsh Vardhan, Ramesh Bidhuri and Pervesh Verma had resigned from the Assembly after they were elected to Lok Sabha.
