Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway on Monday and said the corridor will ease traffic and pollution woes of the capital. It will cut down travel time between Sonepat and Manesar by 45 minutes.

Also called the Western Peripheral Expressway, the 135-km-long route will connect National Highway-1 (towards Panipat) near Kundli with NH10 (Rohtak Road, near Bahadurgarh), NH8 (Jaipur Expressway at Manesar) and NH2 (Delhi-Agra highway near Palwal). Nearly 50,000 heavy vehicles will be diverted away from Delhi daily.

The WPE will help the economy and environment, and improve ease of living, said PM Modi. "Construction of highways, expansion of Metro lines etc are an ecosystem in their own that generate employment."

WPE apart, Modi also inaugurated Escorts Mujesar to Ballabhgarh corridor of the Delhi Metro.
