India on Monday told the International Court of Justice (ICJ) that immediate steps must be taken to stop Pakistan’s from carrying out the death sentence of former Indian naval officer Kulbhushan Jadhav. Noted lawyer Harish Salve, representing India, told the court that India couldn’t arrange for defence aide to Jadhav due to the denial of consular access by Pakistan.

He said India made innumerable requests for consular access but Pakistan refused to provide documents relating to the case and consular access to him.

Here's the highlights of India's argument at the ICJ:

1) Pakistan repeatedly denied consular access to India and no document of Jadhav's trial process was given by Islamabad

2) All requests for consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav fell on "deaf ears":

3) The present situation is grave and that is why India has sought the indulgence of ICJ

4) Afraid Kulbhushan will be executed before its arguments are heard in the case

5) Kulbhushan Jadhav was framed on confessional statements extracted from him when he was in Pakistan's military custody

6) We want appropriate legal representation for Kulbhushan Jadhav.

7) Graver the charges, greater the need for continued adherence of Vienna Convention

8) Kulbhushan Jadhav has neither consular access nor legal representation "even at this stage"
