Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, meanwhile, said that the civilian government and the Pakistan Army would jointly fight the Jadhav case at the ICJ. “It is time to be united,” The Nation, a Lahore-based English daily, reported.

“We have already suffered much in the past. This trend of causing damage to the national interest in order to protect personal ones should be shunned,” he said .

Meanwhile, Pakistani lawyer Khawar Qureshi, who argued on behalf of his country at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Sunday questioned India for claiming victory.

Pakistani news channel Geo TV quoted him as saying that the world court has issued “just a procedural order.” He admitted that former Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav’s case is more about political point than about the law.

“The order by the ICJ is just a procedural order to enable full hearing. It certainly is not a victory for India by any means,” he said. “It was very clear that the court didn’t want to hear about the merits or the jurisdiction. The court wanted to be satisfied whether Jadhav had been denied consular access, which he had,” he said.

Since the verdict, Pakistani media has been targeting Qureshi. The lawyer criticised New Delhi for claiming victory. “It is very disappointing that India should stoop to this level. I understand that someone said I had charged £720,000 as legal fees. Where did this figure come from? This is nonsense,” he lamented. He also cautioned the Pakistani media against picking up everything India says.

“My fee was not even 10 per cent of what the Indian propaganda suggests. I cancelled another professional commitment with another government to travel to Pakistan urgently. I gave a 30 per cent reduction in my fees, besides covering the cost of two of my juniors’ fees,” he added.

Opposition leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah also said Pakistan will not accept international pressure in the Jadhav case.
