The National Democratic Alliance's presidential candidate, Ram Nath Kovind, and opposition parties' candidate Meira Kumar will be campaigning in Chennai on Saturday.
Kovind will meet the MLAs and MPs of the AIADMK factions that pledge support Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and former CM O Panneerselvam, or OPS, separately. He will meet the OPS faction at the Russian Visa Centre in the city on Saturday afternoon and in the evening he will meet the Palaniswami camp at Kalaivanar Arangam in Triplicane. Sources in AIADMK's TTV Dinakaran faction said that the MLAs and MPs supporting the party's Deputy General Secretary would be present at the Kalaivanar Arangam. All the three factions of the AIADMK have extended their support to Kovind.
Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar will meet MLAs belonging to the DMK, the Congress and the IUML at Leela Palace at 6 pm. Later, she will meet DMK president M Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence around 8 pm.
Interestingly, PMK, a former ally of the BJP, said on Friday that it would support the NDA's presidential candidate if the BJP-led central government sets up the Cauvery Management Board — a permanent mechanism to resolve inter-state water sharing dispute — in a month. Otherwise, the PMK will boycott the presidential elections. PMK's Anbumani Ramadoss, who was a former Union Health Minister in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government, won the Dharmapuri Lok Sabha seat in the 2014 general elections as a part of the rainbow alliance of the NDA.
