In one of the most astonishing incidents of railway rescue, Konkan Railway officials detached an entire coach from a train so that a lady whose leg was stuck in the toilet commode could get relief. Passengers of the detached coach had to be accommodated in another coach. The incident happened in the early hours of Friday.

Speaking to dna about the incident, KR chief spokesperson Siddheshwar Telugu said, “Rabiya Sheikh, an elderly lady aged about 65 years, residing at Ghatkopar, was travelling with her husband Kasam Sheikh in S-10 Coach of 10111 Dn Konkan Kanya Express from Mumbai to Karmali. While coming out of the washroom between Khed and Chiplun, though she opened the door, she slipped and her leg got stuck into the Indian style commode.”

Her husband who was just outside the washroom heard Sheikh's cries and alerted co-passengers as well the train attendants and ticket-checkers.

“Even though the washroom door was dismantled, and despite the TC, Coach Attendant and co-passengers trying there level best, Sheikh's leg remained stuck in the commode. By then the train had crossed Chiplun,” said the official.

At Ratnagiri, KR's Regional Railway Manager, BB Nikam along with doctors and officers as well as staff attended the lady in distress. “In what was a very brave decision, we decided to detach the coach itself so that Sheikh could be given relief by cutting the commode with cutters in a meticulous manner,” said the official.

Thankfully Sheikh was left with just a swollen leg and was treated at the local civil hospital, said Telugu.
