Five cars and an OB van belonging to Zee 24 Ghanta in Kolkata were attacked by miscreants in the wee hours on Friday morning. The vehicles were parked outside the office at Poddar Court in Central Kolkata.
Around 2am, Dipankar Das, the reporter on night duty, returned after covering a fire incident to find the OB van completely vandalised with the windscreens smashed and equipment in the van severely damaged. Besides the OB van, five other vehicles having the Zee 24 Ghanta car stickers were also vandalised. Other cars next to these remained untouched.
According to the police, the selective attack on cars that had the Zee 24 Ghanta markings pointed towards a planned attack on the channel. Meanwhile, a complaint has been filed at the Bowbazar police station.
Eyewitnesses claim that they saw one individual dressed in white clothes going on a rampage. They saw him breaking windscreens and windows with the help of a rod and fleeing the spot.
However, the police is yet to confirm whether more than one person was involved in the attack.
