Kolkata: Violent clashes at Ekbalpore injures 5, several shops vandalised

Violent clashes were reported at Ekbalpore in the Port division of Kolkata on Sunday evening, following a major scuffle between two anti-social groups in the locality.
 
Stone-pelting and firing left as many as five people seriously injured. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
 
Within minutes of the clashes breaking out, the spot turned into a battlefield with members of the anti-social groups allegedly resorting to hurling tubelights, leaving several injured in the locality. A number of shops and one police vehicle were vandalised in the incident.
 
Immediately, RAF was rushed to the spot and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Port Division), Imran Wahab also arrived to take control of the situation.
 
Meanwhile, tension is prevailing in the locality as shop owners have downed shutters and people are not stepping out of their homes in fear.
 
Taking no chances, several police vans and senior officials have been deployed at the place where the clashes broke out.
