The Special Task Force of Kolkata Police arrested three suspected ISI agents—Irshad Ansari, Ashfaque Ansari and Md. Jahangir—on Sunday. According to sources, all three suspected ISI agents have strong links with the ruling party, Trinamool Congress.

Irshad Ansari is the leader in the Trinamool Congress-led union at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd, Md. Jahangir is known as the local Trinamool Congress leader and Ashfaque Ansari is the former general secretary of Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) at the Harimohan Ghosh College.

“We have arrested three and suspect they have strong links with the ISI. We have seized fake currency from their possession. We have also seized hand-drawn maps of the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. and Netaji Subhas dock’s maps along with other incriminating documents,” said Rajeev Mishra, Special Additional and Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Headquarters).

A day ago, Uttar Pradesh police said that the ISI agent Mohammad Eizaz arrested by its Special Task Force on Friday was given shelter by the Ansaris. Eizaz started working as a contractual labour at the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. with the help of Irshad Ansari, who still works with the shipbuilders.

Meanwhile, the Kolkata Police’s STF has contacted Uttar Pradesh’s STF to establish further links and unearth the modus operandi of the agents. The three accused will be produced before the court here on Monday.
