Two persons were killed when they were hit by a bus at Chingrighata crossing on the E M Bypass in Kolkata on Saturday morning.

The name of the deceased are Biswajit Bhuniya and Sanjay Murmu. Both are college students according to reports, and were in the locality to collect sweets for a wedding. A speeding govt bus of the route S-30 going towards Sector V hit them and they died in the spot.

Soon, angry locals set several buses and vehicles on fire and threw stones at the police after the accident. The police resorted to baton charge to disperse the mob. RAF was also deployed to control the situation. Within moments, heart of Kolkata turned into a virtual warzone. But the palpable anger of the locals meant that police had a hard time to control the situation. Till 2 PM. police was unable to get a grip of the situation. The entire transport system in the busy crossing was completely in disarray. Local TMC MLA Sujit Basu also rushed to the spot to try to calm tempers. According to locals, police are not interested in traffic control and are more interested in collecting bribes from people, reports Zee 24 Ghanta.

Biswajit, resident of Shantinagar is a first-year college student. His father has also accused police of not doing their duty properly. Biswajit's family has alleged that the speeding bus left the scene after hitting the two individuals. Hence they got mowed completely. Had the bus stopped, Biswajit may have been alive, rues his family members.
