Officials of the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police have decided that the laptop and mobile phones recovered from the arrested alleged linkmen of Al-Qaeda, would be sent for a forensic test.

Sources said that they expect a lot of interesting details would be recovered once those are decoded. “Mails and conversations on different messaging and calling apps would be scanned to get details of their plans and activities,” said a senior STF official.

Since November 21, three persons, members of banned Bangladeshi group Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) which has direct link with Al Qaeda, had been arrested by STF and one of them possessed a fake Aadhar card.

Sources also said that the ABT arrested members were here to recruit more people for their groups and especially women, which is why each of them had married two or three women. It was also found out that in far-flung rural areas, they posed as members of different NGOs which would help women become socially and financially independent.

STF sources said that the arrested accused had confessed that they faced problem carrying out operations in the absence of women members in their group.

In another development, Samsad, one of the arrested has confessed that they had also been instructed to procure arms in Kolkata and to arrange for the money required they had intended to loot a nationalised bank.

“Their main objective was to buy arms which is why they had gone to Kolkata Police Station to have a look at the sample arms and in the process, acting on a tip-off, STF officials arrested them red-handed.
