Kolkata : Arun Jaitley attends Global Business Summit , interacts with Mamata Banerjee

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday attended a programme hosted by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the eve of the fourth edition of the two-day Bengal Global Business Summit in Kolkata.

Jaitley interacted with Banerjee for a short while after which several industrialists including ITC Group chairman Y C Deveswar, RP Sanjiv Goenka Group chairman Sanjiv Goenka and Ambuja Neotia group chairman Harsh Neotia also joined them. FICCI president Jyotsna Suri was among those who attended the introductory programme and a dinner hosted by the state. State Finance Minister Amit Mitra was also there along with other senior West Bengal ministers at the picturesque Eco Park at Rajarhat New Town, where the programme was held on a small island in the middle of a huge lake within the park.

The Ambassador of Israel to India Daniel Carmon and consuls of different countries attended the event. While admiring the setting, the Union Minister also enquired from Banerjee about the success of Kanyasree project initiated by West Bengal government, to which she said has already covered 20 lakh girls in the state. Jaitley was there for around half an hour.

The high-voltage two-day event starting on Wednesday would be attended by Jaitley, Nitin Gadkari besides Banerjee and a host of industrialists. A 500-strong delegation from India and aboard are expected to join the investment extravaganza. The state government is attempting to use 'Bengal Global Business Summit 2015' platform to showcase West Bengal as an ideal investment destination.

Amit Mitra had stated last Friday that the state has attracted over Rs 83,000 crore of investments, including from leading corporates, during the last three and half years' of Mamata Banerjee government. Mitra had said that the country's big corporate houses would attend the Bengal Global Business Summit. Delegations from Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, the UK, the US and Australia are also expected to participate.
