KLNLF ceasefire extended for a year

The ground rules for the peace process with Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF) have been further extended for next one year.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Joint Monitoring Group, comprising representatives of the Central and state government along with KLNLF leaders, was held here today, an Assam police spokesman said.

The representatives present in the meeting expressed hope that KLNLF leadership would hold further discussions with representatives of Central government and Assam government to arrive at a consensus settlement during this period, that is upto October 17, 2015.

The KLNLF leadership present in the meeting assured the government that their cadres would abide by the rules of law during this period.

The KLNLF had come forward for negotiations in February 2010 with 419 leaders and cadres surrendering in the presence of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who had announced a special package of Rs 50 crore for the hill district of Karbi Anglong.
