Lost in translation: Student's surname printed as 'Patang' instead of 'Kite' on Mumbai University degree certificate

A Ramnarain Ruia College student was issued her degree certificate by University of Mumbai (MU) with the literal translation of her surname in English, reported Hindustan Times.

The Devanagari script on the Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM) certificate of Nikita Kite was printed with the literal Marathi translation of her surname, instead of the actual surname. On the certificate, in English, it was written as 'Kite', but changed to 'Patang' in Marathi.

The university has said that a software error is responsible for this. However, instead of resolving the bug, MU rectifies these errors manually. “We manually verify every certificate before issuing it, but somehow missed the error in this case,” Deepak Wasave, the officiating controller of the examination told HT.

MU insists that there haven't been any other such mishaps. 

Meanwhile, Nikita has been issued a fresh certificate.
