Kirti Azad, former cricketer and member of the 1983 World Cup winning squad was on Saturday detained at London’s Heathrow Airport for two hours before being allowed to board a Delhi-bound flight.

Speaking to dna from Heathrow airport before boarding the flight, Azad confirmed that he had been detained and said, “It was a misunderstanding because of my name. They thought I was a Muslim.”

The BJP MP from Darbhanga in Bihar said he had given the airport security a piece of his mind and protested strongly at the treatment.

“If they can do this to an MP, what is the fate of a common man,” he asked.

Reportedly, the authorities also found him carrying a bottle of liquid which Azad claimed to be contaminated water. However, this fact could not be verified.
