I've come to reinstate Delhi and fix the damage that was caused in the last 15 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday, addressing a rally in Delhi's Vishwas Nagar in the run up to the upcoming elections.
The people of Delhi had voted last time with high hopes, but the same people back-stabbed them, created a situation of instability and ran away from responsibility, he said. But they were suitably punished in the Lok Sabha polls, he added.
"You must check the track record of the big-talkers around you," Modi said, adding that "You can fool someone, but only once."
This government is for the poor, dedicated to serve the poor, he said, outlining that they had decided to upgrade all slums into apartment blocks. "By the time we celebrate the 75th year of independent India, we will ensure that all slums are replaced by cemented houses," he said.
"Earlier even when Haryana and Delhi were under Congress rule, Delhi suffered from water shortage. But as soon as BJP came to power in Haryana, the Chief Minister decided to solve this problem and share its water with Delhi. When good people take over governance, good results come out of it and this is the perfect example of it," Modi said.
"The people of Delhi gave us seven seats in the Lok Sabha elections. I believe the same people will help us reach majority this time as well. Delhi needs people who have an experience of running a government. Kiran Bedi has experience of governance, strong shoulders and strong decisions. I believe she will develop Delhi," Modi said.
"We have honestly returned the subsidy amount back to the people's bank accounts, and no middlemen have taken the money. Within such a short time, we knocked on every poor man's door. We asked them to open a bank account, and with this an amount of Rs 1 lakh accident insurance was given to them. We don't talk about it, but act upon it," he said
Talking about US president Barack Obama's recent visit to India, he said that some people had raised several questions. "I want to ask these intellectuals, if Obama had only done a namaste and watched the Republic Day parade, wouldn't these enemies have thrashed us for a wasteful visit by such a great world leader? Wouldn't they have used this chance to insult us every time?"
"If the world is looking at India and wants to have better relations with us, then the reason is not Modi, but you, the voters of India. After 30 years in the history of India, the citizens of India brought the BJP to power with the highest number of votes. And because of this, when any world leader, shakes hands with Modi and looks into Modi's eyes, he doesn't see Modi, he sees 125 crore Indians," he said.
