After her disastrous defeat in the Delhi Assembly polls last week against her rival Arvind Kejriwal, BJP's Kiran Bedi has opened up with her side of the story on her blog titled 'An Open Letter to Fellow Indians'.
She begins with saying that she is relieved that her parents weren't alive to hear the foul words hurled at her during the campaign.
She moves on to talk about her career as a police officer in Delhi. "I did crime prevention, saving women from being raped in rural areas on dark nights by erstwhile criminal tribes with literally no cops on roles..by involving village young men to patrol at night. While I was personally out 5 nights a week," she said.
The former IPS officer who was presented as Delhi CM Candidate by BJP, lost to AAP's Arvind Kejriwal with BJP getting only three seats out of Delhi's 70 seats. In the blog, she accepts defeat and takes responsibility for it.
"I also wanted to not die one day with a guilt that I was commenting only and never daring to pass the ultimate test of electoral politics. I have failed the test. And take full responsibility for my decision," she says.
Bedi said she opted for electoral politics not for position or power but for serving the city that has been her home for over 40 years. Bedi even pitched in new ideas for campaigning. She said that the way parties campaign should be reworked and hassle free for the citizens.
"Roads are in disarray, and work just stops. Everything is too loud, uncouth at times, insulting to thin skinned, false, insinuating, biased, revengeful, corrupt, wasteful, highly disruptive of common man's needs, breaking all laws, and sending all wrong messages. It's not a level playing field for the levelheaded serving people. It's a field for might and muscle in all respects. We need to address these. Hope to see it in my life time," she wrote.
Taking a disguised dig at the promises made by AAP in their manifesto, Bedi says people want implementable visions and plans. "..They also want freebies...more you give, more you get. They do not get it still, that there are no free lunches in life. If you rob Peter to pay Paul, it won't be long before all get robbed."
Towards the end of her blog, Bedi asks every citizen to become a stakeholder in governing this country. But expresses dismay when she says, "Forget about security for women...Only God knows how long women will continue to suffer."
On an ending note she thanks all the people who voted for her. She closes by repeating the same lines that she started her blog with, "And also all who called me with foulest possible names, I am relieved my parents were not alive to see this.."
