Security forces led by CRPF's elite CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) claimed to achieve a major success against Maoists by neutralising secretary of the powerful Koel Shankh Zone (KSZ) and a member of Bihar Regional Committee of CPI (Maoist) Sylvester Minz in Jharkhand besides apprehending KSZ's sub zonal commander, Dilbhar early morning on Saturday.

Sylvester had Rs 15 lakh reward on him, while Dilbar carries a cash reward of Rs. 5 lakh. Police claimed Dilbar was carrying an AK-47 and several rounds of ammunition with him.

CRPF had launched an operation on a specific input this morning in village Dipatoli under police station Chainpur in Gumla district of Jharkhand. The encounter broke around 5:30 am when the encircled Maoists opened fire on the security forces, claimed CRPF.

Describing the operation as a major blow to the outlawed Maoists, a CRPF official said, this would lead to disarray and confusion among KSZ members that would further weaken the CPI (Maoist) hold in Jharkhand region.

Last month the security forces had neutralised another key Maoist commander, secretary of Garhwa sub zone Anurag Yadav alias RK in an encounter in Palamu district of Jharkhand.

Sources said the CPI (Maoist) has suffered major reverses in past one year, including surrenders by lower and middle level cadres and it has made them desperate to fill in gaps in its militia and PLGA units.
