MK Vimal Govind from Malappuram, Kerala, has won acclaim from the American Society of Research (ASR) for a robot he invented. The Deccan Chronicle reports that the robot can be used in defence and heavy industrial sectors.

Vimal studies mechanical engineering at MES Engineering College, Kuttippuram, Kerala. ASR had conducted a conference in Singapore on Mechatronics and Manufacturing (ICMM 2016) and Vimal represented India in this 7th international conference. He presented his robot which is an invention in the field of exoskeleton robotic technology. Out of the 13 countries represented, Vimal's paper was selected as the best. It is now going to be published in the International Journal of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics Research. He told the daily, "My invention is a cost-effective extension of research in this field in the US."

Vimal has told the daily that his robot can reduce huge human requirements in military operations since the powered exoskeleton robot can do the job of many humans in dangerous situations. These semi-robotic machines could even be used for heavy industrial requirements. Vimal told the daily that a prototype of the exoskeleton robot’s development was in the final stage of development. The robot they have invented is a human-controlled exoskeleton with powered machines which will boost human ability.
