IPS officer Merin Joseph, who is currently the Assistant Superintendent of Police of Munnar, has slammed the media for "shameless" objectification of women. On Sunday, she raised her voice against the propagation of patriarchal structures that reduced a woman's worth to her face value.

In a Facebook post, Merin spoke about an article published by a daily titled, '10 most beautiful IAS and IPS officers in India' that demeaned the "bold and brave officers working in the complex bureaucratic system in India".

Though the news article was later taken down, people on social media questioned the mindset wherein the merit of an individual was not taken into consideration.

Merin also questioned as to why one would "never see a list of the most handsome males in the IAS and IPS". Her post had already been shared 357 times and liked by around 2.5K people at last count.

The IPS officer was in the news earlier last year when a picture of a junior officer holding an umbrella for her had gone viral on social media. Later in another controversy, she had asked an Ernakulam MLA to take a photograph of her with actor Nivin Pauly.
