A "cracker-like object" was on Saturday recovered by the police from the venue of an RSS event at Dharmadam in Kannur district, which is the Assembly constituency of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
According to the police, at around 10 am, RSS workers found the object in a bush while cleaning the Chirakuni ground to organise the "pathasanchalam" function, held as part of the annual foundation day of the Hindutva organisation.
The concluding function of an RSS route march was to be held there.
On being informed, the police rushed to the spot, recovered the object and searched the area with the help of the bomb squad.
Kannur Superintendent of Police (SP) Arun Kumar denied reports that a bomb had been recovered from the venue of the RSS programme.
"The object recovered was not a bomb, it was just a cracker-like object," he said.
Security was beefed up in the area as a precautionary measure, the SP added.
Kannur district is one of the politically sensitive regions in Kerala. It has witnessed a series of clashes between the workers of the CPI(M) and RSS-BJP in the recent months.
