The opposition on Thursday slammed Delhi Budget terming it as "bogus" and "gimmick", even as Aam Aadmi Party called it a forward-looking one which has given priorities to sectors like education, health and transport.

Slamming the budget, BJP Delhi president Satish Upadhyay said AAP had talked a lot on budget expenses through Mohalla Sabhas dialogue and when the chance to implement came, only 0.65% budget expenditure, that is just Rs 253 crore, has been given for Swaraj Nidhi. "This Delhi Budget is a gimmick. It is more or less a continuation of AAP election speeches," he said.

Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly and BJP MLA Vijender Gupta said that be it the matter of Swaraj Nidhi or giving 20 crores to the selected 11 constituencies, there is no clarification as to who would decide how this money is to be used. Congress said the whole budget has been made on "unrealistic revenue forecasts".

Attacking the government over the Wi-Fi project, it said sanctioning a mere Rs 50 crores for providing free internet in colleges and villages is like making a "joke" of the promise made to the people of Delhi. Upadhyay said the allocation for free Wi-Fi was to "misguide" the youth. "Let Delhi government tell can they give free Wifi in all schools, colleges and entire rural belt in just 50 crores," Gupta asked.

However, AAP went all hammer and tongs on Twitter over the budget. "Revolutionary allocation for education in Delhi Budget. Education, health, transport, women security, WiFi, Swaraj, skilling, jobs, bijli, paani are focus areas of AAP govt budget #SwarajBudget," party leader Ashutosh tweeted. "106% increase in education in DELHI GOVT budget! This is governance. This is AAP commitment to make Delhi knowledge hub. Education for all and quality education to every one," he said.

Calling AAP government's maiden budget "historic", Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said it is for everyone - women, students, the aged and the industrialists. "This is the budget of the aam aadmi. The hopes and dreams with which people voted for us, this budget will look to fulfil those wishes. This is the budget for the poor and the middle class," Kejriwal said after the budget was tabled by his Deputy Manish Sisodia in the Assembly here.

The Chief Minister also took potshots at BJP, saying there are certain political parties that say they will bring back black money, before the elections; but after voted to power, makes us do yoga instead. "They say that they will rid the country of inflation before polls, and after polls say, they do Swachh Bharat.

However, we have delivered on every promise what we made," he said. According to him, the city's government has invested in people in terms of inceasing budget for education and health sectors due to which Delhi will become a better city
