The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has offered Raja Vemula, brother of Rohith Vemula a clerical job, reports the Hindustan Times. It is a temporary post.

Raja Vemula is a Masters degree holder in Applied Geology with 72.8% marks from Pondicherry University.

Some teachers and students from HCU are outraged as they find the offer insulting for someone with an academic qualification as his. “Raja is a highly qualified, hard working and bright Dalit. Offering him a job like this is simply insulting,” Gummidi Prabhakar, Rohith's close friend and Ambedkar Students’ Association leader said.

Raja has cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) and can be hired as an assistant professor in any college in the country.

But the Delhi government has said that they could only offer a group C or D job (clerical level) as only that group can be given on compassionate grounds. “The candidate has been given relaxation from normal procedure of selection… and relaxation of skill test qualifications,” the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s letter, which was sent on April 4, said.

“When the family came to Delhi, they had asked for a job for Rohith’s brother and expressed a desire to move to Delhi. We have offered them a house…The aim is to help the family tide over financial distress,” he said.

Raja said, “When my brother was alive, he would often say that his dream was to see me do a PhD from a foreign university. I have a strong urge to make his dream come true. I want him to be proud of me.”

Raja said that is grateful for the offer but is yet accept the offer.
