The number of pilgrims visiting Kedarnath this year has touched record numbers.

The volume of pilgrims is equal to that of those reaching Badrinath Dham. Over 6 lakh devotees have already visited Kedarnath Dham this year. According to the district administration, about 20,000 devotees are reaching every day.

Until last year, only a quarter number of the devotees visiting Badrinath would travel to Kedarnath.

But for the last three years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been worshipping at the Kedarnath Dham. This has developed interest among devotees from the country and abroad in visiting Kedarnath.

Despite all troubles, devotees are reaching Kedarnath Dham. It is a difficult trek of about 16 kms to reach the shrine. However, travelling in a helicopter or on horses and mules has made the trip a little easier.

However, the number of people making the journey on foot remains high. The administration hopes that by the end of June, the number of pilgrims crosses 7 lakh.

Mangesh Ghildiyal, district magistrate of Rudraprayag, said, "We had estimated 10,0000 to 15,000 pilgrims every day. But the high volume of devotees have reached Kedarnath Dham, there is a need to make more arrangements."

On the other hand, Uttarakhand's Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj said, "It is good to see an increasing number of people visiting. Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Patel has also been asked to carry out various works in Kedarnath Dham."

Kedarghati was completely demolished after the 2013 flood. But now, enthusiasm has renewed in the valley. Because of the chopper services, the journey has once again become swift. PM Modi's frequent visits to Baba Kedar helped the state government attract pilgrims.

However, this time, pilgrims also faced severe road jams in Uttarakhand. The state government has modified several travel routes to tackle the issue.
