Kashmiri named head of Twitter's news, politics units

A 30-year-old communication professional from Kashmir, who led the online ‘stop rape now’ campaign on change.org after the Delhi gangrape has been appointed as India head of the news, politics and government by the micro blogging site Twitter.

Hailing from south Kashmir district of Anantnag, Raheel Khursheed has been entrusted with the job of providing front-line technical support to news, government, political users of Twitter, solving problems and escalating to internal support and policy teams as needed.

“Manage, track and expand Twitter’s relationships with journalists/editors and government officials or politicians; increase the active usage of Twitter significantly among them,” reads the post on his Twitter and Facebook page.

Raheel will also be responsible for developing the best practices and new story formats, and drive adoption by news, government, political users and share those with global team.

“Lead strategies that scale up Twitter’s reach and impact with news, government, political users of Twitter,” reads his post on his Twitter page.

A journalist-turned-communication professional, Raheel has had an impressive career in both journalism and online communication. Previously he has worked as director of communications, India at Change.org, the world’s largest petition platform.
