Mother's love triumphed-over radicalisation after another youth shunned path of violence and returned to his family in the militancy-hit Kashmir.

Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Shesh Paul Vaid announced the good news about the youth reuniting with his family on Twitter.

“Another mother’s appeal to her son to shun militancy and return home gets response, God bless the family and show path to others”, tweeted Dr Vaid.

The identity of the youth has been kept confidential due to the security reasons. He is also the second youth to have renounced violence in March alone. On March 2 another young boy returned to the fold of family leaving path of violence in the valley.

Official figures reveal that sixth youth have heeded to their families appeal and gave up the path of violence in the valley.

The return of youth from jaws of militancy has come against the backdrop of two youth from Srinagar taking up arms.  Pictures of 18 year old Faid Mushtaq Waza brandishing AK 47 riffle went viral after it was released on social networking sites.  Faid has reportedly joined Lashkar-e-Tioba.

On Saturday, the 27 year old son of newly elected chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai joined Hizbul Mujhadeen outfit in Kashmir. Junaid Ashraf Sehrai, an MBA pass-out, had left for Friday prayers but did not return home in upmarket Bagaat area of Srinagar city. On Saturday Junaid’s picture with AK 47 surfaced on the social media setting the speculations about his disappearance to rest.

Few months ago, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who also holds the home portfolio, in a written reply in the Legislative Council, said four misguided youth shunned the path of violence and returned to the mainstream.

“Efforts are being made to counsel the families of militants to convince their wards to give up violence”, she had said.

The trend started in November last year after a 20 year old footballer turned militant Majid Khan, shunned the path of violence and returned to mainstream after the heart wrenching video of his consolable mother appealing him “to come back or kill them” went viral.

Last year in an unprecedented move Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian army, and CRPF had issued a joint appeal to the local ultras to surrender and promised to “receive them with open arms”.

Police had promised that any militant who surrenders and is not involved in heinous offences will be rehabilitated so that he leads a normal life.

Militants apart, stone throwers too were granted amnesty by the Mehbooba Mufti led government as a part of her healing touch policy. Nearly 9730 youth involved in different incidents of law and order in Kashmir valley since 2008 have been granted amnesty.

In a written reply in the Legislative Assembly, Mehbooba said the government has approved the withdrawal of 1745 cases in respect of 9730 persons/youth/first time offenders with the permission of the trial courts subject to certain conditions.
