When chances of normality had brightened, the death of one more youth has put the restive Kashmir Valley again on the brink.

Gowhar Ahmad Rather, 22, had suffered grievous head injuries when security forces chased down the protesters and stone throwers in Kangan area of Central Kashmir’s district of Ganderbal two days ago.  

Gowhar was immediately shifted to Trauma Hospital where from he was referred to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar for specialised treatment.

After battling for life for two days, he succumbed to his wounds in the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences on Tuesday.

Massive clashes erupted in Kangan area after the news of Gowhar’s death reached his village. Shouting slogans, protesters clashed with the security forces. Some protesters are said to have received injuries in the security forces action.

Sensing trouble, Jammu and Kashmir government ordered a magisterial enquiry into the killing of Gowhar Ahmad Rather. Additional District Magistrate of Ganderbal Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari has been asked to submit inquiry report within 20 days.

“It is here by ordered the inquiry officer shall submit a detailed enquiry report as per the honourable Supreme Court and NHRC guidelines on the subject within 20 days of the issuance of this order,” he said.

On the other side life remained paralysed for the third day in a row against the killings of 13 militants and four civilians in South Kashmir on Sunday.

SHUTDOWN

Kashmir observed complete shutdown with shops and business establishments remaining closed and traffic off the roads. Schools and colleges remained shut for the second day.
