With the situation in Jammu and Kashmir deteriorating, the Union government is likely to expedite the implementation of Rs 84,000 crore package to restore peace in the Valley.

In the wake of the current turbulent atmosphere, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had on Monday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh and pressed for dialogue. She said that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir would improve in the next two or three months, after which a dialogue could be initiated between the Centre and stakeholders.

According to Economic Times, the Union Home Ministry is likely to put in place a multi-pronged strategy for the state, and a meeting of  bureaucrats from J&K and various central ministries would be chaired by Rajnath Singh.

Implementation of the Rs 84,000 crore package that PM Modi announced in 2015 would be the main agenda of the meeting. "The policy now is to get the trust of the common men and women of J&K," a senior home ministry official told the daily.

In November 2017, announcing the package, Modi had recalled former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee's words -  "Kashmiriyat, Jamhooriyat aur Insaniyat' (Kashmiri culture, democracy, and humanity), saying, he would like to follow these three mantras which are the pillars of development of Kashmir.

The official added that the package will look at creation of more jobs and provide training to youth for securing skilled jobs.

"Last year, 13,227 youths were trained and 6,700 secured jobs," an official said.

He also said that the priority now is to give Kashmiris a sense of community in the mainstream.

Earlier on Monday, talking to media after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mehbooba said, "We must start from where Vajpayee ji left... Modi ji has repeatedly said that he would follow the footsteps of Vajpayee ji, whose policy was of reconciliation, not confrontation. There is no option but to talk.".
