Come feel the fragrance of the World Famous Kashmir Saffron in the paradise!

Welcome to Saffron Spice Park, the one-stop state-of-the-art facility to put the Kashmir saffron on a global pedestal. Built at the cost of  Rs 37.8 crores, the spice park constructed under the National Saffron Mission will be one of the best in the Asian subcontinent that will provide cutting-edge technology to revive the saffron trade in the state.

The project after its completion will not only provide all the necessary mandated facilities to the Saffron Farmers but will also generate the avenues of the employment for the unemployed youth of the state.

Under the project, the government is all set to augment the facilities that include research, testing, quality control and e-trading facilities for the saffron growers.

“This mission and its facilities will ultimately lead to developing an organized ecosystem for the Saffron. Development of Model Saffron Village at Samboora Pulwama has also been undertaken in convergence with National Saffron Mission”, said an official spokesman.

Touted as world’s costliest spice, saffron crops suffered huge losses this year. Precious like gold, Kashmir saffron sells anything between Rs two lakh to Rs three lakh per kilogram in the market.

However, cheaper Iranian variety and adulteration in Kashmiri saffron have dealt a major blow to the saffron farmers in Jammu and Kashmir.

Saffron is used in multiple ways in multiple products ranging from medicine, beauty, color, food, and others. Kashmiri saffron Kahwa (tea) is a delicacy which is served on special occasions signifying the importance of the guests.

It is used in Wazwan (multi-cuisine mutton dish) and halwa in Kashmir. Besides, saffron is used in beauty products and has a high medicinal value. Saffron has also religious significance and Hindus mostly use it to apply tika on their forehead.

“Different types of hi-tech machinery needed for different operation has been installed. The project is almost completed and would be handed over to the department in near future”, said the spokesman.
